Thinking about the box...

Attended an awesome workshop this past weekend at the Bower Center for the Arts. The workshop, Thinking about the Box was presented by Nancy Stark, a fabulous artist from Roanoke, Virginia.

Red Hot Mama

Three days of art, spending time with friends and making new ones. I had a great time, wish it could have lasted longer although I was exhausted by the time it was over. Nancy will be teaching the same workshop in Lynchburg, at the Art Box, in June. If you are local, I highly recommend it.

Honored...

Blue Bayou
A sneak peek at the piece I am currently working on. It's for the next exhibit at the Bower Center which will feature artwork inspired by poetry and/or music. My piece was inspired by the Roy Orbison hit, Blue Bayou. I'm equally fond of the remake by Linda Ronstadt. Items used so far...acrylics, handmade paper, wire, glass beads and polymer clay.

I attended the reception at the Bower Center on Friday night for their current exhibit "Look to the East". The exhibit was judged by Nancy Dahlstrom, Professor of Art at Hollins University and world renowned artist.
One of the two pieces I entered, received an Award of Merit, what an honor. I was totally blown away and quite surprised considering the level of art in the exhibit. I came very close to not entering this piece based on criticism I received from a local artist. Lesson learned...trust your gut! After the awards presentation I had the opportunity to speak with Nancy and she critiqued my piece, it was inspiring and very informative. I came away from the experience feeling better about myself and my art. All is good.
Enjoy!

Getting back on track...

These are a few journal pages I worked on a few weeks ago. Slowly working on getting my creative juices flowing again. You may have already seen them in an earlier post which has since been deleted. My apologies, the post was filled with self pity and I decided that it did not reflect the kind of person I want to be.
This quote set me back on track...
When one door of happiness closes another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
-Helen Keller
I'm no longer looking at the closed door.
Have a beautiful day.
Enjoy!
