Denim...

The theme for one of the Pocket Packet Fridays challenges at PDA this month is Denim. Wasn't really sure what I was going to do until I saw a cute little pair of blue jeans in the dollar bin at Goodwill last week. They were size 6 months, so cute and tiny and the pockets on the back were perfect. I created the handle using very heavy gauge wire I found at Lowe's, I've been using it to make easels for my 4 x 6 canvas panels. I hand stitched the pockets together, adding the handle as I got to the top of each side. I cut a small piece of florist foam, inserted it into the pocket and covered with Spanish moss. A cute little display for a few stick pins.

A quick and easy project.

The weather is lovely and I'm finding it harder to stay indoors, the dirt is calling.

A different style of girl...thought I would try something new. This piece was really more about the skirt, have had it in my mind for a while and it just didn't work with the other girls I was doing. I've done a few more with this type of skirt and will share soon. I think my hair do's are getting better but it's still a struggle.

Our weather has been gorgeous and it's carried over into my art. I've been drawn to bright, cheery colors all week. This piece is a combination of acrylics, ink, rub ons and oil pastels.

Get Happy

The background was created using a piece of a patterned napkin. I stenciled the branch using ink and added a few doodles with pen. The owl is paper pieced using patterned paper and a stamp I found on clearance.

Crayon Art...

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I've been playing with crayons. A few weeks ago, I was browsing around Pinterest (my latest addiction) and came across this crayon art. It brought back memories of art I used to create with my girls when they were younger. All that is needed is an iron, assorted crayons (old & broken are fine), watercolor paper and something to "shave" your crayons. I use a vegetable peeler...an old cheese grater, knife or pencil sharpener will work too.

I used watercolor paper for mine however any type of white paper will work.

Heat iron on highest setting.

Shave or grate crayons onto paper, cover with a second sheet and iron until melted.

Do not overheat or wax will burn. It doesn't take long for the crayons to melt. Pull sheets apart and let them cool.

This one was done in layers, I kept repeating the process.

Sometimes I find the most interesting patterns, this piece had a blob that looked like a fish.

Another challenge...

Life is about using the whole box of crayons.

This tag was created for the Tag You're It, Crayon theme challenge at PDA. The background was created by melting crayon shavings onto the tag with an iron. This is something I used to do with my girls, we created beautiful images using this technique and I'm going to share more on this in future posts. It all just came together when I read about the challenge. Love this quote!

Mystery Envelope Challenge...

Jean sent out envelopes for this challenge, filled with goodies to create a tag. Our tag had to utilize at least 75% of what was in the envelope.

Here's what I created...

The only items I used from my stash are the beads, wire and ribbon.

What a fun challenge.

I've been quite busy in my studio and have a lot of things to share, just need to get photos uploaded. Hopefully, within the next day or so. Off to create, have a great evening.

The new girl...

Girl No.6

Yes, another one. She's been complete for a while, had forgotten to post her. I had a few issues with the background for this one, still not sure I like it, a bit too busy maybe.

Three more girls are in the works and plenty of other things on my to do list, staying busy.

Having fun...

After several weeks of working through the SheArt workshop, I decided to venture out and do my own thing. I knew early on that my favorite part of creating this type of art was making the clothes. A couple of weeks ago, I found the book, Collage Couture, Techniques for Creating Fashionable Art by Julie Nutting and fell deeper in love.

Although I still have a ways to go with these, thought I would share...

Still working on their hair, then will add a quote and an embellishment or two. I like the girls barefoot but shoes are fun too. Playing around with several others, just having too much fun.
