Shine...

My first mixed media clay piece, at various stages...

Shine 6 x 6
I and altered 8 glass tiles and the rest are clay. I used acrylics, sprays and inks to color my tiles.
The initial layout or design of a piece is a bit difficult with my vision issue however once I'm over that hurdle, there's no stopping me. I love creating the tiles.
Enjoy!

Crocheted beauty...

Yesterday, I spent the day with a group of arty friends. After a wonderful lunch at Mac & Bob's in Salem, we visited  the  Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef exhibit at Roanoke College. These are photos of the exhibit. You can read more about it here...http://roanoke.edu/A-Z_Index/Coral_Reef.htm

The exhibit was fascinating and a site to be seen.
Had a fabulous time, enjoy being with others that appreciate art the way I do.
Enjoy!

Clay hearts...

A few of the clay hearts I've made. These were created with polymar clay, baked and then painted. I do not have any clay stamps so I used my rubber stamp alphabet and it worked out fine. Have about a dozen more to be painted and sealed. I've already used a few of these in my journals as embellishments. Love, love, love how simple these are to make.
Enjoy!

Shine on...

Shine On Tag for a challenge at Paper & Digital Arts. The sideways "s" is proof of my visual impairment, didn't even realize I'd done that until I went to scan the tag. There was a time, in my arty life, that I would have covered it up or found some way to redo. Times have changed and so have I, a reminder of how far I've come and how lucky I am. The face is clay and I used a mold to create. While making this, I realized I had purchased glow in the dark clay, by mistake but after painting, spraying and inking, you can't really tell. Sorry the image is a bit fuzzy, should have taken a photo instead of trying to scan.
It's been crazy around here and I am exhausted. I'm so tired of being tired. I was feeling pretty good last week when I last posted but that quickly changed. Youngest granddaughter has been to the hospital twice with a high fever, time time we were told it was a virus, second time she has a double ear infection. My daughter in Fredericksburg had her kitchen ceiling cave in from a pipe that burst from being frozen. Had plans for an evening out on Friday but that was cancelled due to unexpected issues and drama. I was looking so forward to seeing art and visiting friends but it was out of my hands. I find myself frustrated because I cannot drive by myself and more frustrated it will be a long time before I can. I remind myself of all that I can do but it's still hard, I've always been so independent. I haven't driven again since a week ago Sunday, it's like being 15 again and learning for the first time. It's not that I don't know how, it's that things have changes and it gets to my every last nerve, hard to explain. By the time I get where I am going, I'm sick to my stomach.  Anyway...lots to do, just trying to find the energy.
When all else fails, take a nap. Life is good.
Enjoy!

Recycle...

Orange Flowers, 9 x 12 mixed media canvas panel
Pink Flowers, 11 x 14 mixed media canvas
The orange flowers piece was actually an older piece of art I wasn't happy with. If you click on the image, you will see lots of texture in the background. This is from the original piece. I applied a thick coat of Gesso and then started over. These 2 pieces were created a few weeks ago, makes me want to get paint on my hand.
Enjoy!

Art & Junkin' Day...

A photo of the goods I came home with after a day of art and junkin with my friend, Bonnie. We spent the morning in Charlottesville checking out the Art Co-op and several down town shops. Then to Ruckersville to Greene House Antiques and a few thrift stores on the way home. Came home with 2 sheets of music wrapping paper, 3 sheets of scrapbook paper, a pack of patterned tissue paper, a metal frog, a vintage salt shaker and a funny card. A combo of new items with a few old ones, what a great day we had. I also purchased a stencil but was in such a hurry to use it that it had paint all over it by the time I took this photo.

Still working on the project I started almost 2 weeks ago, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. About half way...
I did take a break on Monday and Bonnie and I spent the day with another artist learning about polymar clay. I had a fantastic time and learned a lot. Worked a little with clay on Tuesday but got a headache mid-morning and called it a day. Another bad day yesterday, headache was worse but by last night, I was feeling much better and feel great this morning. Back to my project, hopefully will be done by the end of the weekend. Cannot wait to get back to my art, lots of idea running through my head right now.
Hope you have a fabulous day.
Enjoy!
